Rivers to fish near East Catholes include the River Lune, the River Rawthey and its two tributaries, the River Dee and the River Clough.
The migratory trout normally reach the area sometime in June, and salmon generally appear from August.
Changes in flow and depth can be quite dramatic depending on conditions.
If river conditions prove too difficult, you could always try some stillwater fishing at the nearby Killington Lake Reservoir, which is 6 miles away.
